ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA BEATS NEVIS IN

EXCITING CONTEST

The ongoing Leeward Islands female Cricket league, continued with action at the ET Willet Park on Tuesday 28th June, as Antigua and Barbuda engaged Nevis in a crucial encounter.

After all, both teams had beaten St.Kitts in their first round matches and were looking forward to testing their skills against each other.

Captain Shawnisha Hector won the toss for the visitors and immediately indicated that they would bat first.

Except for the usual regularity of wides, the Nevis bowlers bowled impressively and restricted the Antigua and Barbuda team to 98 for 6 from their 20 overs.

Jenisen Richards scored 18 not out; Grace Persaud 18 and Eldora Sylvester 13.

There were 28 extras.

For the Nevis team, Kimberly Dookhan 2 for 22; Myrthlyn Elliot 1 for 16; Rozel Liburd 1 for 14; Senaldo Willet 1 for 21 and Latoya Bussue 1 for 9

When the Nevis team batted, they seemed on course at the water break after 10 overs but coach Ridley Jacobs, was observed reading the riot act to his team and when they returned to the field, there was a definite show of renewed vigour and effort.

Two needless run outs of Latoya Bussue and Kerisha Powell, tilted the balance back in the favour of the visitors and Skipper Hector went for the jugular.

Despite the brave efforts of opener Melissa Clarke who batted superbly, the pressure at the end was too much for her and she eventually got bowled down by Hector as she tried to hit out.

Clarke top scored with 25; Latoya Bussue scored 16. There were 25 extras.

For Antigua and Barbuda the main blowers were: Shawnisha Hector with 2 for 7; Jenisen Richards 2 for 21; Amanda Edwards 1 for 14; Ikisha Ambrose 1 for 3 and Enrika Matthew.
