ATHLETICS

There was a buzz of excitement at the Jocelyn Liburd Primary School (JLPS), on Friday afternoon 4th February, as the senior girls at the school, faced off in their annual cross country event.

After a slightly delayed start, as the officials awaited the arrival of the Police escort, the athletes from grades three to six, rushed up the Hard times Road, made a left turn, just above the former Disco; then raced down the Rawlins road, past the Old Manor Hotel and entered the main road at Market Shop.

Aniela Fyfield who is incidentally the President of the school’s student’s council, led the pack for the majority of the race, except for a brief moment when she was pushed really hard by second placer, Noella Freeman and third placer, Devery Lewis.

However, as the race intensified, she increased her lead and by the time she got past the supportive students at the Gingerland Secondary school, it was all over by the shouting….
