CFBC Students to Benefit From TVEMS Curriculum Upgrades

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 15, 2014 (SKNIS): The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) will be holding a Technical, Vocational Education and Management Studies (TVEMS) Curriculum Development Workshop this week that will give students the tools to function in the ever-changing job market.

President of CFBC Dr. Kelvin Daly noted that the revision of the curriculum is more than getting students ready for the workplace.

“This is way beyond just preparing students for the world of work,” Dr. Daly stated. “This is about preparing students period whether for work on their own or entrepreneurship or whatever the needs are; we must produce better students much more rounded students, much more qualified students.”

The President also stated that the workshop could not have come at a better time given the fact that the college has progressed with its infrastructure and supply renovations. He added that the July 14-18 workshop will bring TVEMS up to speed with the introduction of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSC) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Secondary Education programmes.

Chairperson of the Core Curriculum Committee Randolph Taylor mentioned that skill based education and training is critical and is the philosophy of the region and Government; that is why there is so much emphasis on TVET. He noted that the continuous upgrades are in keeping with this philosophy.

“This upgrade that is happening now would be a constant upgrade because we also, at a later stage, will have to incorporate our competency based standards in keeping with what is happening in the region.”

The workshop is facilitated by Dr. Spencer Grant, the Dean of the Technical Division of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in Tortola and an expert in technical and vocational education.

The Ministry of Education recognises that education plays a significant role in a country’s development and inspires creativity, fosters innovation and provides people with the necessary skills to be able to compete in the modern labour market and is a key driver of growth in the economy.
