Bronx Crisis threatened for brief moments to create an upset but current champions of Basketball on Nevis, CG Rebels, was just too good on the night.
The match was played in front of a small but enthusiastic crowd at the Grell Hull-Stevens Netball Complex on the evening of Tuesday 28th May. It was the final preliminary match for the 2013 NABA league.
The game started slowly with both teams demonstrating signs of nerves and missing the hoop during the early exchanges. It took a two pointer from Jennerson France to get things moving for the Rebels and then the experienced dread locked Everson Webbe (a former CG player), responded for the Bronx team.
However, by the end of the first quarter, CG Rebels started to pull away slowly but surely, with the score line 18 to 12 in their favour. That first quarter arguably saw the shot of the match though. A screaming three pointer by Dwayne Warner, from way down town. One which certainly excited the crowd.
Bronx Crisis clawed their way back into the game in the second quarter and must have created some tremors in the Rebels’ camp with the score at the whistle, 25 to 21 with CG Rebels leading by a mere 4 points.
In the third quarter, CG Rebels dug deep and sunk all of 18 points with the Bronx Crisis responding with only 8.
CG Rebels had already scored a two pointer in the final quarter when rain brought a premature end to the game. The CG Rebels team was declared the winner.
