In the post match interview an obviously elated Saeed Williams indicated that he expected his team, the Charlestown Secondary School to come out as victors in the finals of the Giant Malt sponsored inter Secondary Schools competition for schools in the Federation of St.Kitts and Nevis.
‘We did it last year and we expected to do it again’, he said. He also sounded an ominous warning: ‘Next year we will be doing it again because the team will be the same—we have a very young team,’ he noted.
The finals of the Giant Malt competition was played at the ET Willet Park on Wednesday 16th April between the two top Secondary schools on Nevis—CSS and GSS.
GSS won the toss and batted first and mounted a competitive total of 168 for 7 in their allotted 35 overs. The outstanding batsman was the lanky Theron CLANG Bussue who almost batted through the entire innings and was sent leg before wicket when on 96, much to the jubilation of the CSS players.
However, the CSS team got out of the blocks early when they batted, with an aggressive display by Ross Powell and Saeed Williams who almost completed a century opening stand before they were separated. Powell raced to his half century before the score got to 70 without loss.
However, CSS coasted to victory with almost 5 overs to spare, with Ross Powell stranded on 92 not out.

Captain of the GSS team, Irvaughn Challenger stated after the match that had he not been unfortunately run out, his team would have made over 200 and he also rued a couple of crucial chances, including Ross Powell dropped when on bought.
Man of the match, Ross Powell noted that the pitch was easy paced and praised his team mates for their efforts in securing the championship.
