Deputy Premier of Nevis is guest speaker for St. Kitts opposition party People’s Action Movement Convention

Basseterre, St.Kitts (May 19th 2014):-Deputy Premier of Nevis the Hon. Mark G. Brantley is slated to be the Guest Speaker at the upcoming 49th staging of the St.Kitts-Nevis main opposition party, the People’s Action Movement , PAM convention.

Brantley, who is also the leader of the St.Kitts-Nevis Federal Opposition was elected Deputy Premier on the Island of Nevis in January of 2013.

The very popular and charismatic Deputy Leader of the ruling Concerned Citizens Movement in Nevis is a graduate of the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica where he received his Legal Education. Brantley also holds a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford.

He is a former Nevis Island Scholar winner and was also named the Most Outstanding student over each of his two years at the Norman Manley Law School.”.

He is currently the Minister of Tourism, Health, Culture, Youth, Sports, and Community Development of the Nevis Island Administration . He is also a radio talk show host and has a weekly 2 hour sociopolitical show on VON Radio 895am or www.vonradio.com . He is married and has 2 daughters.

Brantley along with Party Leader Hon. Shawn K. Richards are the featured speakers at the event which is expected to draw thousands of party supporters, friends, and dignitaries to the PAM headquarters on Lockhart Street.

Both Brantley and Richards are Deputy Leaders of the Historic Opposition Alliance Team UNITY. Team UNITY comprises three of the Five major Political Parties in St.Kitts-Nevis namely the Concerned Citizens Movement, the People’s Labour Party and the People’s Action Movement. The three party alliance controls the majority of elected parliamentarians in the St.Kitts-Nevis Parliament.

Brantley as leader of the Opposition filed a Motion of No Confidence in the Denzil Douglas administration in December of 2012. The Motion has yet to be brought by the speaker to the assembly to be debated despite calls from civil society and regional legal and other personalities to have the motion debated. Brantley along with 5 other elected parliamentarians have signaled that they will support the motion once it is called and they have also given their support to Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris as Prime Minister of the Federation.

The People’s Action Movement convention has for the last 49 years been the highlight event for the party’s faithful. It has also been a time of reflection and inspiration as members recall when 49 years ago the four original PAM stalwarts (Billy Herbert, Kennedy Simmonds, Michael Powell, and Richard Caines) decided that for the love of country they would sacrifice their lives and challenge the policies of the the then Labour Administration led by Sir Robert Llewelyn Bradshaw. Other pioneers included Colin Pereira, Cecil “Moonlight” Roberts, Joseph Sutton, Victor Maynard, Richard Shelford, Shefton Warner, and Courtney Dickenson.
