Monday 9th May 2016 – Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines: The aspiring football players of the Caribbean and Central America were once again put through their paces as coaches from Manchester City FC (MCFC) hosted the Digicel Kickstart Clinic in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Footballing talent was on display as the coaches and players took to the field at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex to begin their two days of intense training. Also on hand to observe the MCFC coaches during the sessions were members of the local football fraternity, including the head coach and assistant head coach for St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ national men’s football team.
As the training intensified, so did the boys desire to impress, which was noticed and praised by the MCFC coaches. Lead Coach for the Digicel Kickstart Clinic in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Lewis Childs, said; “We enjoyed working with the young players in St. Vincent and the Grenadines as they came with the right attitude and a desire to improve their game. Their intensity and passion was impressive and that is something that we hope they will continue to have after the Clinic has ended. The level of skill and ability at the Clinic made it very difficult for us to choose the top three players.”
At the end of the final game, Lewis and his team selected the top three players who will represent St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the Digicel Kickstart Academy: Joash Nash, Javorn Clasp and Nigel Matthias. The players will join the other top players from across the Caribbean and Central America at the week-long Digicel Academy where they will receive another round of intensive training. The boys will then have the opportunity to impress the coaches further, in the hopes of being among the top players who will get the chance of a lifetime to train at the City Football Academy, Manchester City FC’s elite training and youth development facility in Manchester, England.
