FIRST DRAG RACE OF THE YEAR SET FOR SUNDAY

Newly appointed Drag racing Coordinator in the Department of Sports, Javon Richards, on Thursday revealed that the first drag race for the year, will be held at the ST. James’ Raceway on Sunday, 12th March.

In terms of the logistics of the meet, Claxton indicated that the event will commence at 2 pm and all of the racers are expected to be in place by 1.30 pm.

Adults will pay $20.00 and children $10.00. Vendors will pay $100.00 and Drag racers will pay $40.00 for a pit pass.

He stopped short of stating what the winnings would be like on the day, but noted that the top racers would be fairly compensated at the end of the day.

Additionally, during the intermission, several racers and bikers will perform some stunt acts for the crowd.

Cars from St.Kitts and Nevis will be on show, with a possibility of a few coming in from Anguilla.

Asked about a possible conflict with the newly revived inter high schools’ athletic championships, on the same day, Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton, noted that generally , each of the events will attract its own crowd.

‘Even though, there are some people who would have loved to attend both events, there are some people who really love athletics and there are people who really love drag racing and so each event will attract its own crowd,’ he stated.
