Foreign Minister Patrice Nisbett seeks educational opportunities for St. Kitts and Nevis students to study in Turkey

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JULY 21ST 2014 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Patrice Nisbett, who is in Turkey to attend the ground-breaking First CARICOM-Turkey Consultation and Cooperation Meeting, has held discussions with high-level university officials in seeking training for St. Kitts and Nevis students.

Minister Nisbett with the assistance of Mrs. Gonul Eken, Honorary Consul of St. Kitts and Nevis to Turkey, met with the President and other senior representatives of the Istanbul Aydin University, a mainly technological and vocational school, to discuss the various programmes offered by the University and the means by which the University can facilitate students from the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis to pursue a degree at the school.

This award-winning school offers various vocational programmes in Computer Programming, Information Technology, Business Management and Tourism and Hotel Management, as well as undergraduate and graduate programmes in Political Science and International Relations, Translation and Interpretation, Computer Engineering, Civil Aviation Management, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Software Engineering, all of which are taught in English.

The St. Kitts and Nevis delegation, which included Mrs. Nerys Dockery, Foreign Service Officer; Mr. Michael Penny, Foreign Service Officer and Mrs. GhislaineWilliams-Clarke, First Secretary in the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations, was given a tour of the school which included its state-of-the-art Medical and technological engineering laboratories.

It was agreed that further discussions will take place to finalize an arrangement with the University as to how it can work with the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis to advance work currently being undertaken in disaster management and explore the various financial assistance packages that can be extended to students from St. Kitts and Nevis.

Istanbul Aydin University was established in 2007 as a foundation university by the Anatolian Education and Culture Foundation (AKEV). The history of the institution dates back to Anadolu BİL Vocational School. The aim of the university is to find a solution to the problems of the country by educating the qualified individuals who has the ability to put into practice the knowledge they have gained.

Also, the university wants to become a higher education institution that creates learning and educational technics which always incorporate with the new developments and train its faculty members and students who have the knowledge and technology and using this technology at the highest level and turn knowledge into production and can speak foreign languages.
