General Post Office Thanks Customers and Launches New Service on Friday

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 08, 2015 (SKNIS): The General Post Offices (GPO) in St. Kitts and in Nevis are giving back to their customers on Friday (October 09) when they host Customer Appreciation Day as part of their commemoration of World Post Day.

Giveaways, light refreshments, and several raffles are included in the events planned for the main offices in Basseterre and Charlestown. A special highlight will see the launch of the GPO’s United States Mailbox Service which allows local consumers to ship packages, such as online purchases, to an address in Florida, USA, to be forwarded to St. Kitts.

Nicole Agard, is spearheading the new service and said the pilot testing, which began several months ago proceeded well, and management is now ready to offer the service to a wider audience. A display table will be available on Friday featuring information for interested individuals to learn more about the service and to signup. Registration is free up to November 01, 2015.

“Customers are always looking for something more so … with our service we are able to offer great customer service at a convenient location,” Ms. Agard said.

An officer of Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise is based full time at the GPO and that allows for expedited clearing of packages. Ms. Agard also noted that where several orders of small packages are shipped to the U.S. address, they will be bundled together in one package to avoid extra costs for the consumer.

“It is going to be a lively event tomorrow and we are inviting everyone to come out,” said the GPO official, who concluded by thanking the public for its support over the past year. The event begins at 9 a.m.

According to un.org, World Post Day is celebrated each year on October 09, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union. The Posts in many countries use the event to introduce or promote new postal products and services.
