(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- Four bartenders competed on Thursday, July 17, 2014 in a bartending competition at the Riviere House located at Government Road, Charlestown.
This event, ‘Gastronomy Nevis- Stage 1, 2014 Bartending Competition’ was hosted by Sen Consulting, Mr. Noah Mills.
A small but supportive crowd came out to witness Mervan France, Monique Washington, Winston Dibber and Kendie Williams face off against each other in an effort to win the grand prize of $1000.00 E.C.
The competitors competed in five (5) rounds: Speed Pouring, Alcoholic Rum, Non-alcoholic, Blending Cocktail and a Signature Drink. Those in attendance were very much intrigued by the performances and creative drink techniques displayed by the participants.
Mervan France and Winston Dibber represented the Nisbett’s Plantation Beach Club; while Kendie Williams represented Mango at the Four Seasons Resort. Monique Washingston on the other hand represented herself.
Washington recently won the C40 Energy Drink Mixing competition that was held a few weeks ago at ‘Baccahanal Corner’. During her performance she was confident that she would also be the winner for this event.
At the end of each round, the drinks were tasted by three (3) judges: Patrick Daniel, Micciah Sechoo, Rahul Kinja. Some of the audience also tasted the beverages for themselves.
In the end, the ladies were dominant. Dibber placed 4th and he won a dinner for two. France placed 3rd and he won $400.00 E.C, while Washington placed 2nd and she won $600.00 E.C.
With an overall of 350 points, Kendie Williams was adjudged the winner. She walked away with the grand price of $1000.00 E.C.
Surrounded by her family and managers at Mango Restaurant, Kendie told this media house that she was very proud of herself. She also stated that she enjoyed tending bar and she would continue to push herself to be the best. Kendie noted that this competition was her ninth win.
The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Ms. Sian Chiverton, Mrs. Hope Merchant, Sen Consulting and AquaVita Water.
