Kieran Powell Recalled To West Indies Test Team

By:Curtis Morton

Nevisian Kieran Powell has been recalled to the West Indies test team, after a self-imposed sabbatical.

On his return to his beloved sport of Cricket, Kieran has performed creditably in the WICB regional tournament and excelled in the regional T-20 series and had mixed results in his encounters versus the touring English and Pakistan teams.

He got a lone half century in the recently concluded one day series against the Pakistanis.

Powell also made 58 in the first innings, versus the tourists in a warm up game, in representing the West Indies President’s X1 team, over the weekend, before he was unfortunately run out. In the second innings, he was on 84 not out before the game was called off.

Leeward Islands all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall, also played in that match and performed creditably. He made 28 and bowled 12 overs for a mean 24 runs, without getting a wicket.

Leeward’s wicket keeper/batsman, Jahmar Hamilton also represented the President’s X1 and he made 26 and took three catches in the game.

As the West indies team prepares to engage the tourists in the upcoming test series, the Selection Panel of the West Indies Cricket Board announced on Monday, a 13-member squad for the historic first Test of the Brighto Paints presents the Q Mobile Cup Series against Pakistan, starting on Friday at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, which will be hosting its 50th Test.
