Kunkaran remanded to prison

(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- Kunkaran Chatram, a national of Guyana but who resides in Stoney Grove, Nevis was today Wednesday, June 4, 2014 remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison, St. Kitts.

Kunkaran was formally arrested and charged for wounding Shawn Chatram to commit murder.

This incident occurred on May 28, 2014 at the Pinney’s Beach. It is alleged on that said night, as the senior Chatram returned to shore from a fishing expedition, he was attacked and shot in his mouth and abdomen.

The senior Chatram while at the Alexandra Hospital identified his son to the police as the attacker after writing his son’s name on a piece of paper. Nevispages understands that Kunkaran was arrested at the hospital while visiting his father after he heard about the shooting.

On Tuesday, June 3, 2014 Attorney Robelto Hector on behalf of Attorney Chesley Hamilton asked the court to have Kunkaran’s bail hearing adjourned until the following day. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 as Kunkaran’s attorney Chesley Hamilton was engaged at the Basseterre High Court.

The request was granted by Her Honor, Magistrate Yasmine Clarke. The twenty-four year old spent another night at the Charlestown Police Station cell with hopes of being granted bail.

Today, Wednesday, June 04, 2014 Counsel Chesley Hamilton was still unavailable and as a result Kunkaran was remanded to prison.

No date was set for his bail hearing.
