Lesroy Powell affectionately known as ‘Dabby’ is a household name and thus making him one of the most popular persons to have emerged from Nevis. He was born in Craddock Road in the parish of St. Paul’s in 1958. His persona was one of extreme affection and many persons gravitated towards his personality. Whether he was standing, walking or sitting, Lesroy had that innate ability to get people to stop and take notice of him.

He had a profound love for the Methodist Church. He was also very fond of attending others funerals, even if he was not familiar with the person; he still showed up and paid his last respects.

He was also a staunch supporter of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) and practically attended every political meeting the party held. His advocacy remained with the party until the very end.

On Monday, April 10, 2017, the island received the shocking news that Lesroy had passed away. The news of his death spread rapidly throughout the island, and a number of persons took to social media and expressed their condolences.

We do not know when again such a man will ever walk the streets of Charlestown, Nevis.
