Vice president of the Nevis Cricket Association, Vellie Maynard, on Wednesday assured cricket lovers on Nevis that the local Cricket season will continue, despite the many challenges.
The scheduled match on Tuesday was not played and Maynard indicated that that was due to the non-preparation of the ET Willet Park pitch.
The scheduled match for Wednesday was not played due to the effects of Tropical storm Matthew and the scheduled match for today Thursday between SDA Jets and GSS, will most likely not be played, as the storm is still expected to be making its way across the islands.
Despite these challenges, Maynard is insisting that the second division tournament will indeed continue until there is a grand finals encounter and has indicated that the first division fixtures are set to commence this coming weekend, although a lot depends on the weather conditions and the preparation of the pitch.
Asked about possible clashes with the soon to commence Football season, Maynard noted that negotiations are taking place and he is confident that the matter will amicably resolved as there is a proposal on the table, that Football be played on specific days and Cricket on other days, to avoid conflict in the use of the ET Willet Park.
