MP Liburd in passionate appeal to PM Harris to assist Timoy Henry shot by stray police bullet‏

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – An emotional appeal to Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr. The Hon. Timothy Harris to help save the right  arm of Timoy Henry,  a young athlete shot by an officer in the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

“Timoy’s future as an aspiring athlete is jeopardised. He is a father and a family man. He is a painter. He is a young man with a bright future and is first and foremost a human being,” said Central Basseterre parliamentarian, Hon. Marcella Liburd.

She said Henry, a middle distance runner and a national athlete. is in great pain and is suffering because of a stray bullet from an off-duty police officer that passed through his neck and lodged in his right shoulder while partying on The Strip at Frigate Bay on June 27th.

“The (High Command of the Police Force) is saying that the police officer was off-duty and there is a distancing of the police from this young man and his suffering,” said Liburd, who appealed to the top brass of the Police Force, the Minister of National Security, Dr the Hon. Timothy Harris and his Government “to look after this young man.”

“They need to help this young man to get further surgery overseas to save his hand, his future and his livelihood. He needs to be helped to minimise whatever damage is already done to his muscles, the nerves in his right arm and his body in general. This is not right. Somebody has to be responsible and the Police, the Minister of National Security as well as the Minister of Sport (Hon. Shawn Richards) should give urgent attention to this matter,” said Ms Liburd.
Henry’s sister, a bone specialist at the J N France General Hospital, told WINNFM, if the athlete is not sent overseas very soon for treatment for the nerve and bone damage caused by the bullet, his arm could be permanently paralyzed.
“My arm is on fire. The nerves are just digging in my hand; sometimes I can’t even get to sleep. Sometimes I go from night to morning, no sleep,” he said.

Henry’s family told WINNFM they have sought assistance from the Police High Command, and were told the Force’s hands are tied. Henry’s sister said the Force Personnel Officer suggested she contact  Social Services.
