VILLAGE LEAGUE TO COMMENCE IN EARLY NOVEMBER

Miss Vera Herbert, President of the Nevis Netball Association, recently announced that the local Association will be coordinating a Village league which is set to commence in the second week in November.

Miss Herbert stated that it is all in an effort to revive the sport on the island and the initiative was construed with the idea of getting people to play Netball once again.

She pointed to the fact that Nevis has a rich history of outstanding Netball players, starting with Cresentia PIPSIN O’Flaherty who was the first player from Nevis to make the West Indies Netball team and Lydia Thompson-Claxton who not only made the West Indies team but was captain of the team on a successful tour of the UK.

She urged persons to organize teams within their various villages and contact the Association which will help to coordinate matches at various venues across the island and will also provide balls and officials and other assistance where necessary.

The teams will not be required to be fitted with official uniforms.

‘The idea is just to get people to play the game, not put them in expense,’ said Miss Herbert.
