NEVISIANS FEATURE IN LEEWARDS YOUTH TEAMS

Four Nevisians left the Vance Amory Int Airport on Monday 4th July to be part of the Leeward Islands representative team for the WICB under 17 Cricket tournament which will be held in Trinidad from the 8th to the 18th, July.

The four cricketers are: Marcus Dubbery, who has been named as Captain of the team; Kian Pemberton; Jelani Manners and Bodgernarine OMESH Sharma.

The cricketers were due to stop off in Antigua where they will be part of a four day training camp, before going on to Trinidad.

All four youngsters expressed confidence in their own abilities to excel, prior to boarding the flight on Monday. Dubbery expressed special thanks to Keith Arthurton, former West Indies player, who he indicated had assisted him greatly.

Meanwhile, Denrick Liburd, president of the Nevis Cricket Association, wished the players well and expressed confidence that they will do Nevis and the Leewards proud. He had special words of commendation for Marcus Dubbery, who he termed as ‘level headed’ and opined that he will lead the team well.

He also took time out to congratulate the five ladies who have made it into the Leewards female team: Saneldo Willet; Kerisha Powell; Rozel Liburd; Melissa Clarke and Kimberly Dookhan and noted that he expected at least two to make it into the West Indies female team. He also congratulated Latoya Bussue who has been named as a standby for the team.

Liburd also indicated that Kian Pemberton will join Ross Powell in the Leeward Islands under 19 team, immediately after the conclusion of the under 17 tournament and stated that Carlon Tuckett is the lone Nevisian representative in the Leeward Islands under 15 team, for an upcoming tournament.

He further indicated that shortly, the NCA will be announcing plans for the hosting of the second division competition and the conclusion of the first division competition as well.
