Opposition leader in the Nevis Island Assembly, the Hon. Joseph Parry told listeners to Issues on Freedom FM -Tuesday that he got a terrible surprise a few days ago when it was confirmed that the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) Ministers have been increasing their salaries every year since 2013 without any discussion to the people.
“It is usually customary to discuss increased salaries with the people in a parliamentary structure, meeting with stakeholders or a committee that deals with financial policies. Unfortunately, under the CCM none of these actions took place. The funny thing is that during the CCM’s campaign promise they said they would take a 10% cut, instead the Premier, Hon. Vance Amory has taken a 33% increase and the Government Ministers have received a 23% increase”, said Hon. Parry.
The Salary increase goes as follows:
Salaries April 26th, 2013- Premier $123,024.00 and government ministers $115,140.00.
Salaries December 14th, 2014- Premier $148, 320.00 and Ministers $123,360.00
Salaries November 30th, 2016 – Premier $149,460.00 and Ministers $127,080.00
An astonished Parry stated, “ The Premier, Vance Amory’s salary has gone up by $26,436,00 and the Ministers salaries has escalated to $11,940.00 all within one term and without any notification to the people via Parliament or other means!”
