POETRY WORKSHOP STARTS MONDAY

By:Curtis Morton

Charlestown-Nevis-Senior Youth officer and Counselor at the Nevis Youth and Sports Department, Miss Kerdis Clarke, earlier this week revealed that her Department will be hosting a poetry workshop, commencing on Monday 21st March, which is the day internationally recognized as WORLD POETRY DAY.

The theme for the day will be: ‘Perfecting the art of leadership through poetry.’

The workshop will be held at the Disaster management office’s conference room, located at Long point and is open to students attending the Secondary schools across the island and adults of any age.

Emphasis is being placed on persons interested in not only poetry writing but song writing as in the case of potential junior Calypsonians.

Primary schoolers will have a separate workshop at another time to be determined.

The workshop on Monday will feature three sessions:

  • Poetry writing skills-how to compose a poem
  • Enhancing poetry with music (facilitated by musicians)
  • Emotions in motion-which will aid the participants in the execution and delivery of the pieces

At the end of the day, there will be a poetry lounge where the participants will be able to present their pieces that they created during the day, complete with a live band.

The one day workshop is set to begin at 9 am and conclude at 3 pm.

Interested persons have up to today Friday 18th March to register, free of cost at the Youth and Sports Department.
