Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 6, 2016 (RSCNPF): Below is a report of Arrest, Convictions and other activities of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force for the period 2- 5 June.
ARREST AND BAIL:
Arrested: Arthurlyn Lee of White House was arrested and formally charged for the offence of driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred 21:10 hrs on 2nd June 2016. Bailed: He was granted in the sum of $5000.00 and ordered to appear at the Basseterre Magistrate Court on 9th June 2016.
Arrested: Shakema Halliday of Buckleys Site was arrested and formally charged on two Warrants in the First Instance for Forgery and Larceny. Bailed: Shakema Halliday of Buckleys Site who was arrested for Forgery and Larceny was granted bail by District A Magistrate Her Honour, Ms. Donna Harris in the sum of $60,000.00 ECC with two sureties namely Sharline Halliday of Walwyn Avenue, Buckleys Site and Denzil Crooke of Frigate Bay with the following conditions: 1. Applicant to surrender all travel documents, 2. Visit the Basseterre Police Station everyday between 08:00am to 04:00pm, 3. Applicant not to leave jurisdiction. She is due to appear before the Magistrate on the 4th July, 2016 at 09:00hrs in the forenoon.
Arrested: Lesford Liburd of Cabbage Tree, Cayon was arrested and formally charged for the offence of Possession of Cannabis. Bailed: He was granted bail in the sum of $5,000 for his appearance at the Basseterre Magistrate Court on Monday 6th June, 2016 at 09:00 hrs.
Arrested: Juan Skelton of Pitcairn Street New Town was arrested and charged for possession of cocaine and on a warrant in the First Instance for offence of Battery on Police and threatening language was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 for the first charge, for his appearance at the Basseterre Magistrate Court on Monday 6th June 2016 at 09:00 hrs in the forenoon was granted bail in the sum of $1000.00 for the second charge.
Arrested: Vaughan Parris of Shaw Avenue Basseterre was arrested and formally charged for Possession of Cannabis. Bailed: He was granted bail in the sum of $5,000 for his appearance at the Basseterre Magistrate Court on Monday 6th June at 09:00 hrs in the forenoon.
Arrested: Audington Syder of Fort Thomas Road was arrested and formally charged on a Warrant in the First Instance for Wounding, This incident committed on the 29th of May 2016.
Arrested: Anthony Anderson of the Alley, Sandy Point was arrested and formally charged without warrant for the offence of leaving the scene of an accident.
COURT CONVICTIONS:
In matters at the St. Christopher Circuit Court presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Marlene Carter. In the case D.P.P vs Dwayne Martin and Carla Hendrickson of Bird Rock, who were both indicted for Possession of Firearm and Possession of Ammunition, the Jury returned with a unanimous verdict and found both accused GUILTY on count one of Possession of Firearm and GUILTY on count two of Possession of Ammunition. Her Ladyship ordered a Social Inquiry Report and sentencing is scheduled for 6th July, 2016. Both convicts will remain on bail until their sentencing.
In matters at the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court No 2 presided over by Her Honour Ms Mallalieu-Webbe, the following persons namely Bevon Taylor of McKnight and Raphael Chapman and Muraine Matos of Pinney’s Beach, Nevis who are natives of the Dominican Republic who were charged for the following drug offences respectively(1) Importation of Cocaine, (2) Possession of Cocaine and (3) Possession with Intent to Supply on November 14, 2015, at the commencement of the trial all pleaded not guilty. Bevon Taylor was found guilty of Possession and Possession with Intent to Supply and was fined $100,000.00 forthwith or two (2) years imprisonment hard labour. All charges against Raphael Chapman were dismissed. Raphael Chapman was held in police custody for immigration purposes having over stayed in the Federation. The fishing vessel Pearla Negra which was used for conveying the drugs was forfeited under section 2 of the Drug Act and ordered to be sold at a specified time and its proceeds be paid into the government treasury.
In matters at the District “B” Magistrate Court presided over by Her Honour Ms Karen Hill-Hector, Dornel Bernier of Station Street Old Road who was charged with the offence of possession of cannabis committed on January 27, 2016 was convicted and ordered to pay a fine of $2000.00 to be paid by June 30, 2016 or if default serve thirty (30) days in prison.
OTHER ACTIVITY:
Police continues its increased presence in our communities to ensure citizen safety. Increased Vehicular Check Points, searches of abandoned properties, Personal Stop and Searches have continued in efforts to rid the community of illegal firearms, drugs and other instruments that can be used to commit crimes and enable criminal activity.
Marijuana Plants uprooted: A combined patrol reported that they uprooted 100 marijuana plants from Stone Castle, Tabernacle in a bushy area next to a pig pen ranging from seedlings to 5 feet height. The plants were seized by the Police.
Traffic Accidents: Seventeen (17) traffic accidents occurred on the federation’s roadways in St. Kitts and in Nevis of over the period 2-5 June 2016.
Community Engagement:- The Police Sports Club held its monthly health walk on 4th June 2016. The walk commenced at the Police Training School at 5:30 a.m. Participants walked along the Frigate Bay Road, to Kim Collins Highway, to the F. T. Williams Highway and on to Cayon Street, ending at the Police Training School. The walk started with 75 participants and increased to 107. Among the persons present were COP Queeley, DCP Brandy and other members of the High Command, senior ranks, other ranks, civilian employees of the police force, family members and other civilians. Delta Petroleum employees were also present. The next health walk is scheduled for Saturday 9th July 2016.
