Shinel Dore graduates from UWI Open Campus

Miss Shinel Dore of Stoney Grove Nevis, a former runner up States Scholar, graduated on Saturday 11th October, 2014, from the University of the West Indies, Open Campus with a BSc Accounting degree with First Class Honours.

In 2009 she was First Runner-up for the ‘Best CSEC Certificate’, obtaining ten (10) O’Level subjects with eight (8) distinctions and received numerous awards and prizes for her achievements. Shinel also received an all ‘A’ profile in five (5) subject areas including Mathematics and Information Technology.

In 2011, she graduated as Valedictorian of the Nevis Sixth Form College with nine (9) A level subjects and also attained the Best CAPE Certificate award in Nevis. In addition to these achievements she made it to the ‘CAPE Regional Merit List’ receiving the third (3rd) best Information Technology Unit 2 results in the Caribbean, the first and second place being taken by two Trinidad students.

She would like to encourage students who would like to further their studies but unable to do so due to financial constraints to utilize the UWI Open Campus as it is a convenient and cost effective means of obtaining an education from the comfort of their home.

Shinel would like to thank God for giving her health and strength to persevere and strongly believes in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Sincere thanks is also expressed to her family and friends especially her parents, Clinton & Venelda Dore and former teacher Mrs. Pamella Pemberton for their unwavering support.
