Mervyn Bonnet of the Nevis Drag Racing Unit on Wednesday revealed that six islands have now confirmed participation for the grand Culturama races, set to take place at the St.James’ Raceway, this weekend—Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August.

Anguilla and St.Maarten confirmed earlier that same day and between those two islands they will be sending some 10 cars.

The other islands on board for the mega event are St.Kitts; Antigua; St.Croix and host island, Nevis. He pointed out that over the two days, the sporting public would be able to witness approximately 40 to 45 cars in action and 6 to 10 motor bikes.

On Saturday 3rd August, the focus will be on the Tech inspection when the safety checks will be conducted and the vehicles will be placed into their various brackets such as 10; 11; 13; 14 seconds etc and on Sunday 4th August he referred to it as the day when the men will be separated from the boys.

He indicated that history will be created as there are several much anticipated match ups which will include local racer MOON’S KING OF CALLE coming up against LIGHTENING out of Antigua, driven by LIAT’s pilot Daneel Emmanuel and there is also THE EDGE owned by Sherlock Queeley of St.Kitts, going up against all comers.

Additional entertainment include: A live DJ; Carib Breweries with their happy hour and give aways from LIME and DIGICEL.

Vendors can now register at the Drag racing Unit situated next to the Treasury Building in Charlestown and will only pay $150.00 for set booths and $100.00 if not using a booth, on a daily basis.

The spectators will pay $10.00 for adults on Saturday and half price for children and $20.00 on Sunday, with children paying half price.

An additional attraction will be seen on Friday 2nd August, when at least 8 of the race cars will be placed on exhibition at the fruit festival hosted by the Agriculture Department at the Villa grounds in Charlestown.

Bonnet also thanked the major sponsors of the event which include: The Nevis Island Administration; Sea bridge; Nevis Spring Water; LIME; Zone one Auto Supplies; Pancho’s auto Supplies; Zumi’s Auto Supplies; TDC and Horsfords.
