BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 19TH 2014 (CUOPM) – The United States of America imported more goods and services from St. Kitts and Nevis in April, than all the other OECS countries for the same period.
According to foreign trade statistics issued by the US Census Bureau, while the United States imported goods and services to the value of US$7.2 million from St. Kitts and Nevis, it imported a total of US$3.5 million in goods and services from all the other OECS countries – – Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The United States Census Bureau is also reporting that St. Kitts and Nevis exported goods and services to the value of US$20.2 million to the United States for the first four months of this year compared to total of US$19.9 million for all the other OECS member states.
The statistics reveal that St. Kitts and Nevis exported US$7.2 million in April 2014, compared to US$7.3 million in April 2013; Antigua and Barbuda exported US$200,000 in 2014, compared to US$700,000 in 2013; Anguilla, US$600,000 in April 2014 compared to US$400,000 in the same month last year; British Virgin Islands, US$300,000 in April 2014, compared to US$400,000 in April 2013; Dominica, US$100,000 in April 2014, compared to US$100,000 in April last year; Grenada, US$1 million in 2014, compared to US$1.8 million in 2013; St. Lucia, US$1.2 million in April 2014 compared to US$1.4 million in April 2013 and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, US$100,000 in April 2014 compared to the same figure in April 2013.
Barbados exported US$4.4 million to the United States in April, Guadeloupe, US$300,000 and Martinque, US$400,000 also in April.
For the first four months of this year, St. Kitts and Nevis leads the OECS nations as well with goods and services exported to the United States valued at US$20.2 million; Antigua and Barbuda, US$4.4 million; Anguilla, US$1.8 million; the British Virgin Islands, US$1 million; Dominica, US$800,000; Grenada, US$3.4 million; Guadeloupe, US$1.3 million; Montserrat, US$200,000; St. Lucia, US$7.9 million and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, US$400,000.
St. Kitts and Nevis companies exporting to the United States and their products are Lutron Liamuiga (dimmer switches and fan speed controls); Harowe Servo (St. Kitts) Ltd (small motors, PC Board Assemblies, Rotor Assemblies and resolvers); Kajola-Kristada (connectors, filters, trap and surface mounts; for the Cable TV and Communications Industry); CSR/DDL (CSR rum/brandy and Brinley flavoured rum products); Jaro Electronics (industrial motors and transformers) and Caribelle Batik, whose products are mostly purchased by cruise passengers and stayover visitors.
