St. Kitts and Nevis leads OECS, French, Dutch islands in exports to the United States in June, US$81 million for first six months of 2014

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, AUGUST 11TH 2014 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis continues to be the leading exporter of goods and services to the United States in June this year, than all the OECS nations, as well as St. Maarten, Guadeloupe and Martinique.

According to foreign trade statistics issued by the US Census Bureau, exports and services to the United States from St. Kitts and Nevis for the month of June 2014, were valued at US$4.7 million or EC$12.7 million compared to US$4.2 million or EC$11.3 million in 2013, while the goods and services exported to the United States for the first six months of this year, stood at US$29.9 million (EC$81 million) compared to US$27.4 million (EC$74.2 million) for the same period in 2013.

For the month of June 2014, Anguilla exported goods and services to the value of US$500,000 (EC$1.35 million) to the United States, compared to US$400,000 (EC$1 million) in 2013; Antigua and Barbuda, US$400,000 (EC$1 million) compared to the same figure in 2013; the British Virgin Islands, US$100,000 (EC$271,000) compared to US$400,000 (EC$1 million) in June 2013; Dominica, US$100,000 (EC$271,000) compared to US$200,000 (EC$542,000) in June 2013; Grenada, US$900,000 (EC$2.4 million) compared to US$1.2 million (EC$3.2 million) in June 2013; Montserrat, US$100,000 (EC$271,000) compared to none in 2013; St. Maarten, US$1.4 million (EC$3.7 million) compared to US$1.9 million ((EC$5.1 million) in 2013; Martinique, US$500,000 (EC$1.35 million) compared to US$2.7 million (EC$7.3 million) in 2013; Guadeloupe, US$100,000 (EC$271,000) compared to US$200,000 (EC$542,000) in 2013; St. Lucia, US$1.3 million (EC$3.5 million) compared to US$1.2 million (EC$3.2 million in 2013 and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, US$300,000 (EC$813,000) and US$200,000 (EC$542,000) in 2013.

Goods and services exported to the United States from St. Kitts and Nevis for the first six months of this year were valued at US$29.9 million (EC$81 million) compared to US$27.4 million (EC$74.2 million) in 2013.

For the same six month period this year, Anguilla exported US$2.7 million (EC$7.3 million) compared to US$2.3 million (ECS$6.2 million) in 2013; Antigua and Barbuda, US$5.9 million (EC$15.9 million compared to US$5.6 million (EC$15.1 million) for the first six months of 2013; British Virgin Islands, US$1.5 million (EC$4 million) compared to US$3.5 million (EC$9.4 million); Dominica, US$1.1 million (ECS2.9 million) compared to US$1.2 million (EC$3.2 million) in 2013; Grenada, US$6.8 million (EC$18.4 million) compared to US$5.9 million (EC$15.9 million); Montserrat, US$300,000 (EC$813,000) compared to US$200,000 (EC$542,000); St. Maarten. US$28 million (EC$75.8 million) compared to US$29.9 million (EC$81 million) in 2013; Martinique, US$26.8 million (EC$72.6 million) compared to US$9.2 million (EC$24.9 million) Guadeloupe, US$1.6 million (EC$4.3 million) compared to US$4.2 million (EC$11.3 million); St. Lucia, US$11 million (EC$29.8 million) compared to US$7.9 million (EC$21.4 million) in 2013 and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, US$800,000 (EC$2.1 million) compared to US$1 million (EC$2.7 million) in 2013.

St. Kitts and Nevis companies exporting to the United States and their products are Lutron Liamuiga (dimmer switches and fan speed controls); Harowe Servo (St. Kitts) Ltd (small motors, PC Board Assemblies, Rotor Assemblies and resolvers); Kajola-Kristada (connectors, filters, trap and surface mounts; for the Cable TV and Communications Industry); CSR/DDL (CSR rum/brandy and Brinley flavoured rum products); Jaro Electronics (industrial motors and transformers) and Caribelle Batik, whose products are mostly purchased by cruise passengers and stayover visitors.
