ST. KITTS AND NEVIS TO HOST CARIBBEAN’S PREMIER CONFERENCE ON TERTIARY EDUCATION

Basseterre, St. Kitts – The 12th Annual Conference of the Caribbean Area Network for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (CANQATE) is slated to be held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, Frigate Bay, St. Kitts from October 7-9, 2015. The CANQATE Conference will provide a regional and international forum for the exchange of ideas and sharing of best practices and experiences in tertiary education quality assurance. The Conference is being hosted by the Ministry of Education and the St. Christopher (St. Kitts) and Nevis Accreditation Board (SKNAB).

This year’s theme is Quality Assurance and Socioeconomic Development in a Global Environment: Regional and International Perspectives.

The annual gathering will provide an interactive platform for members of national quality assurance agencies, tertiary institutions, government ministries, regional and extra-regional related bodies and other interested organizations and individuals to share experiences, best practices, practical strategies, research findings and discuss developments in quality assurance in tertiary education and its socioeconomic impact.

“It is imperative that we ensure that Quality Assurance remains a priority and a driving force that fuels the development of strategies for the identification and assessment of our current higher education needs,” said Honourable Shawn K Richards, Minister of Education. “To this end, we are indeed honoured that CANQATE has chosen St. Kitts and Nevis to host its 12th Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting.”

Executive Director of the SKNAB Secretariat, Mrs Trisha Francis highlighted that it has been an arduous task to organise the upcoming conference but says St. Kitts and Nevis is ready to welcome participants from across the Region as well as the United States of America, United Kingdom and beyond.

“The local organising committee (LOC) has put in many long days and nights of planning to produce a superb conference agenda for the 3-day event,” said Mrs Francis. “To add to the overall experience, the LOC has planned several events outside of the main conference sessions in order to allow participants to truly experience the culture and splendour of our islands.”

The LOC encourages residents of St. Kitts and Nevis to register and attend this most significant conference. Registrations can be done daily onsite throughout the conference.
