St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and Nevis Reformation Party to unveil draft agreement

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, DECEMBER 16TH 2014 (CUOPM) – The governing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) and the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) will unveil a draft agreement formalising a spirit of cooperation, collaboration and commitment for the national good.

This was disclosed Tuesday by St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas during his weekly radio programme “Ask the Prime Minister.”

“That is why building on and strengthening the bonds between St. Kitts and Nevis is so important to me,” said Dr. Douglas, who recalled that one year after taking office in the July 1995 General Election he moved without delay to establish a Federal Office in Charlestown.

“You are aware of the ways in which my outreach to the people of Nevis has always been so clear, and their warm and receptive embrace so welcome. That is why I speak, at every opportunity, about the importance of cooperation and collaboration being the guiding principles that guide relations between St. Kitts and Nevis. That is why I am so baffled, and so concerned by the behaviour of those who wish only to break and destroy the bonds between the Federal Government and the Nevis Island Administration,” said Dr. Douglas who told listeners that that attitude hurts only Nevis.

“We know, because the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Government has a massive store of experience and expertise that could be of dramatic and transformative benefit to people of Nevis. And yet there are those who have done everything in their power to prevent that. In life, however, one must focus on what is possible – and not on what is not possible. And so, your St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government is moving forward, as we always have, focusing on “the possible.” Where Nevis is concerned, we will not only focus on what is possible, but we will celebrate and magnify these possibilities,” Prime Minister Douglas said.

He said his four-term government is focused on real progress and real change and has no interest in breaking down when there is so much which, together can be built.

Dr. Douglas said his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and the Nevis Reformation Party of the Hon. Joseph Walcott Parry, are two distinct political organizations which shall maintain these distinctions.

“However, in a spirit of confidence and commitment, we have worked for months now to produce a draft agreement through which the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and the Nevis Reformation Party will ensure continued growth and advancement for the people of both St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

He announced that in keeping with the democratic ideals that guide the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and the Nevis Reformation Party, the Agreement will be presented to the people of the Federation, in order for them to respond, comment, and suggest “so that, together, we may all continue this important march forward – as one nation.”

“The people of St. Kitts and the people of Nevis, and the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and the Nevis Reformation Party, will come together, in a spirit of joy and positivity, to celebrate this clear commitment to building this clear commitment to forward movement, this clear commitment to creating a new and important moment in the history of our people,” said Dr. Douglas.

The Agreement will be unveiled during a joint event at Pinney’s Beach in Nevis and Port Zante, St. Kitts featuring I-Octane and Copper Shot on Thursday 18th December from 6: 00 p.m.

“Though separated by water, we will demonstrate that we are forever connected by blood and history, and most of all a commitment to peace, cooperation, and stability in our blessed Federation,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
