PAM Press Release
“The People’s Action Movement has again shown maturity, putting aside differences with others to be a part of Team Unity, representing a true commitment to country above self.”
Basseterre, St. Kitts May 26, 2014, (PAM Public Relations):- The 49th Annual Convention of the People’s Action Movement is now in the history books and by all accounts the event has been deemed a resounding success.
Sunday May 25, 2014, saw PAM headquarters come alive with an overflowing crowd of members, friends, and well wishers, including former Prime Minister and leader of PAM, the right Honourable Sir Kennedy Simmonds and his cabinet colleagues including Richard Caines, Constance Mitcham and Micheal Powell, members of the diplomatic core, members of Team Unity partners CCM and PLP including Team UNITY Leader Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris and Hon. Sam Condor along with NIA Junior Minister Hon. Troy Liburd and Minister Alexis Jeffers. The convention was called to order shortly after 2:00 p.m. by outgoing party Chairperson, Miss Cyndie Demming who declared PAM today stronger than ever and here to stay.
Sunday’s convention under the theme “The Urgency of now, Country above self” was not only historical in terms of the massive crowd on hand, but more so for the cause of unity. The appearance of the Honourable Mark Brantley as keynote speaker represents a first in our Federation. For only the second time in the history of this nation, a political party on St. Kitts has reached across the narrows and extended an invitation to a member of a party from our sister island of Nevis to headline a national political party convention. The first time again was under a PAM/NRP Administration when the Dynamic Victor Jay Martin of the NRP was the Keynote speaker in the early 90’s. . “The People’s Action Movement has again shown maturity, putting aside differences with others to be a part of Team Unity, representing a true commitment to country above self.”
This year’s annual convention convened at a time when our nation is mired in its greatest crises ever, set against the backdrop of major challenges facing our working class, including; the rising cost of living, inflation, VAT, high electricity cost, unemployment, stagnant wages, and a disappearing middle class. True to the party’s motto “putting people first”, the visionary People’s Action Movement through its leader, the honourable Shawn Richards, again laid out policy positions and alternative approaches, designed to address these challenges, and to rebuild a blighted economy, brought on as a result of the failed policies, and the general mismanagement of the current Denzil Douglas administration.
The People’s Action Movement 49th convention came to a close with party leaders and rank and file upbeat, ready, and committed to the hard work required to achieve victory at the polls, resolving that upon returning to office as part of Team Unity, immediate steps will be taken to eradicate the corruption and abuse of the Citizenship By Investment program, restore integrity, transparency, and responsibility in the granting of our citizenship to persons deemed worthy of such an accolade.
