ABS Radio Salutes Frank-I

The media fraternity in Antigua and Barbuda is mourning the loss of veteran journalist, sportswriter and commentator Ambassador Franklyn ‘King Frank-I’ Francis.

He was a familiar voice on ZDK Radio as a sportscaster and host of conscious, reggae-centric music programmes.

His weekly evening sports show was widely listened to throughout Antigua and Barbuda and the sub-region. His sign offline, Jah Guide, Keep Fit and Be a Good Sport, became his signature phrase and quite possibly the most popular in radio up to today.

Ambassador Francis, known for his deep baritone voice, was regularly called on to provide commentary for international cricket matches featuring the West Indies, not only here in Antigua but across the region.

He was an admirer and close friend of the country’s only surviving national hero Sir Vivian Richards.

Ambassador Francis was also widely respected by the Rastafarian community, on whose behalf he advocated for many years and most recently where the legalization of Marijuana is concerned.

In 2015, he was appointed this country’s Ambassador to the African Union.

ABS would like to express our sincerest condolences to his family at their loss.
