WASHINGTON, DC, United States- St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States (OAS), Her Excellency Jacinth Henry-Martin, met with Commissioner Gloria de Mees of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to advance dialogue and explore strengthened cooperation between St. Kitts and Nevis and the Commission.

“Commissioner de Mees, Rapporteur on the Rights of Older Persons and Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, shared the Commission’s priorities in promoting inclusion, equality, and dignity across the hemisphere,” the Embassy said in a statement on Friday.

Discussions focused on practical avenues for collaboration aligned with the Federation’s national priorities, particularly following St. Kitts and Nevis’ accession in 2024 to the Inter-American conventions protecting the rights of older persons and persons with disabilities.

Ambassador Henry-Martin reaffirmed the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to aligning domestic frameworks with regional and international human rights standards and welcomed the possibility of a future working visit to St. Kitts and Nevis.

“Both parties emphasised the importance of sustained engagement between the Commission and small Caribbean states to ensure that demographic change, accessibility, and social protection remain central to development strategies,” the Embassy statement said.
