Athletics : Today Is D-Day

Today is the day for the long-awaited, much anticipated Interprimary sports meet, on Nevis.

Easily acclaimed as the single top event on the island’s calendar of events, the major event will be held at the Nevis Athletic Stadium or the Mondo track, starting today at 12 noon.

The distinguished patrons for the day, originally hail from the St. James’ Primary School: Romancia Mills and Beonard Williams.

Long-serving main sponsor of the event, Gulf Insurance, will be joined this year, with the Bank of Nevis International also coming on board, with a significant sponsorship deal.

A major change to the event this year is that the points system will no longer be used to determine the overall winner.

Instead, the team with the most gold medals will be declared the winner.

In case there is a tie for gold medals, the silver medals count will be used to determine the winner and if there is a further tie in silver medals, then the bronze medal count will be the determining factor.

The nine competing schools are Charlestown Primary-defending champions; St. Thomas’ Primary; Joycelyn Liburd Primary; Ivor Walters Primary; Elizabeth Pemberton Primary; VOJN; St. James’ Primary; Maude Cross Preparatory and Nevis Academy.
Up to late last evening, the venue was a buzz of activity, as the organizers put final plans in place and the vendors erected tents and made preparations for today’s grand sales.
