Community Development Department on Nevis Holds Staff Retreat

Charlestown-Nevis–The Department of Community Development on Nevis hosted a staff retreat at the Mount Nevis Hotel on Wednesday, May 27, 2015.

The event which was hosted as part of the department’s month of activities was held under the theme: ‘Our Community; Our Commitment; Our Concern’.

A brief opening ceremony was chaired by Mrs. Greta Jeffers, Center Manager of the Franklyn Browne Community Center. The prayer and devotions were conducted by Community Development Officer, Rev. Othneil Daley.

This was followed by an overview of the day’s activities that was done by Director of the Department, Mrs. Janet Meloney. Ms. Meloney noted that the retreat would serve as a means of educating the staff; help them to learn from each other and foster closer bonds with each other.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Development, Mr. Keith Glasgow gave brief remarks. He commended the efforts of Director Meloney and asked the staff members to use this opportunity to learn as much as possible.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Community Development Officer, Miss Tracey Parris.

The staff members were treated to several dynamic presentations which also allowed them to give their opinions on various issues.

These included:
• ‘The culture/overall philosophy of community development in St.Kitts and Nevis’—by Miss Azilla Clarke
• ‘Work ethics and confidentiality of community development practitioners’- by Ms Elmeader Brookes
• ‘Mission and goals of the Ministry in relation to community development’-by Mr. Keith Glasgow
• ‘The importance of team work and good interpersonal relationships’- by Mr. Leostone Morrison

There was also a dance performance by staff member, Mrs. Tamicia Lestrade. The groups also conducted lively discussions.
