Cricket : West Indies Stay Afloat After Record Partnership

A record-breaking partnership between Shai Hope and Justin Greaves kept the West Indies in contention on day four of the second Test against Sri Lanka.

After winning the toss and batting first, Sri Lanka posted a formidable 549 for 9 declared, putting the visitors under early pressure.

The West Indies appeared to be in serious trouble at 144 for 4 before Hope and Greaves combined for a record 242-run partnership, stabilising the innings and frustrating the Sri Lankan attack.

Hope scored a composed 112, while Greaves produced a career-best 180, helping the West Indies reach 499, just 50 runs short of Sri Lanka’s first-innings total.

At the close of play on day four, Sri Lanka were 92 for 2 in their second innings, extending their overall lead to 142 runs heading into the final day of the match.
