Farmers Receive 5,000-Gallon Water Tanks Through Major International Partnership

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS — Farmers across St. Kitts and Nevis are benefiting from improved water access following the distribution of 5,000-gallon water tanks, handed directly to members of the local farming community.

The initiative was led by Samal Duggins and the Ministry of Agriculture, St. Kitts and Nevis, made possible through a significant international collaboration with the Global Environment Facility, United Nations Environment Programme, and International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The direct handover of the tanks marks a critical step in strengthening the resilience and productivity of the agricultural sector. With reliable water storage now within reach, farmers are better equipped to manage dry periods, sustain crop production, and improve overall farm operations.

This intervention is expected to enhance food security nationwide by supporting consistent agricultural output and reducing vulnerability to climate-related challenges.

Minister Duggins highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing the sector, noting that initiatives such as this demonstrate a clear commitment to empowering farmers and building a more sustainable agricultural future.
