FEET IN THE STREET CANCELLED BUT CARIBBEAN WELNESS DAY WALK STILL ON

Charlestown-Nevis–Health Educator at the Health Promotion Unit in Nevis, has indicated that the much talked about FEET IN THE STREET promotion that was originally planned for this coming Friday-11th September, has been cancelled.

The initiative was planned with the objective of forcing people to walk into Charlestown on that day, parking at the Villa grounds, once heading from the Gingerland area and parking in the vicinity of Pinneys, for persons travelling from Cotton Ground and similar areas.

In its wisdom however, the final word from the Ministry of Health, is that the proposed event has been cancelled.

However, the planned Caribbean Wellness walk slated for Saturday 12th September is still on.

Caribbean Wellness day is a day established by CARPHA and celebrated throughout the entire Caribbean to bring awareness to Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) – what they are, the risk factors associated with such and what we can do as a nation to prevent or lower the number of cases of Non Communicable Diseases. The day is celebrated every year on the second Saturday in September.  This year it will be celebrated on September 12th.

Miss Nisbett stated: ‘As we have noticed that many people in our federation as well as across the Caribbean are not physically active enough, we at the Health Promotion Unit in Nevis have decided to use Caribbean Wellness Day to promote the start or continuation of a healthy lifestyle by encouraging our citizens to walk more.

Therefore on Saturday September 12th 2015, we will be having our annual Caribbean Wellness Day walk which will start at 6am from the Villa grounds through town and end back on the villa via town, the bypass road and Pump Road. Masefield Nisbett will be there to give warm up and warm down exercises both before and after the walk respectively.’

She is urging the general public to put on their walking shoes and join the large group or persons who intend to walk for their health on the day.
