Frankie Claxton-Looking Forward To Olympian From Nevis Making It Really Big

By Curtis Morton

An emotional Frankie Claxton in an interview conducted at the brand new Mondo track on March 28th indicated that he was really pleased with the efforts made by the Nevis Island Administration in procuring such a world class track.

He congratulated Nevisian Olympians Kurvin Wallace and Meritzer Williams for their previous achievements but indicated that with such a world class facility, he is now looking forward to seeing a Nevisian athlete make it really big on the world stage.

He reflected on the early years of making Athletics an integral part of Nevisian life and reminisced on those early years when himself, Janet Grell Hull, Jennifer Hodge and Glen Hanley, met at the home of Lester Blackett, to formulate plans for the formation of the Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (NAAA).

He also gave kudos to persons such as Jennifer Hodge and Carmelita Archibald-Merchant who made it to the Carifta games, in those early years.

Claxton who now resides in Anguilla but was especially invited to witness the historic first inter primary event at the Mondo track, used the opportunity to admonish the officials and athletes, to utilize the track wisely and to make the most of all the opportunities being afforded them.

He also thanked Gulf Insurance for their long term sponsorship of the major event.
