(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- Hon. Carlisle Powell is the new Operation Manager for the Caribbean Premier League, (CPL), for the new T20 cricket competition. This information was released on Thursday, May 9, 2013 by Leader of the Nevis Reformation Party, Hon. Joseph Parry.

Hon. Parry was at the time appearing on Choice Radio as the special guest on the ‘Tell Me’ Show. Hon. Parry stated that it was Mr. Powell’s accomplishments and performance in his homeland that have made him excelled and recognized regionally.

Nevispages was informed that Mr. Powell took up the position May 1, 2013 and part of his duties is to conduct meetings with Ministers of Tourism and Sports, Cricket Boards and Stadium Owners and Operators in six franchise locations. These include Antigua and Barbuda, St. Lucia, Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad and Jamaica. He has completed four successful meetings thus far. He will proceed to Trinidad today Friday, May 10, 2013 and then to Jamaica sometime next week.

During his recent visit to Guyana, Mr. Powell pointed to the immense benefits Guyana is set to derive from the games being staged in the only South American English speaking country. He was of the view that the Caribbean Premier League, (CPL), would only be successful with the co-operation of the tourist boards of the supporting countries and the backing of officials spreading awareness about the event.

He also outlined that the tournament will ensure regional players are involved in the six franchise teams. He explained that each team will have 15 players, at least six of whom must be local players from that franchise country.

In addition, Powell indicated that at least four of the players must be under the age of 23. The remainder of the team must consist of regional and/or local players and have a maximum of four international players.

Franchise players include Chris Gayle, his fellow Jamaican teammate Marlon Samuels, Sunil Narine; Dwayne Bravo; West Indies Team Captain Darren Sammy; and Kieron Pollard.

This Caribbean Premier League is scheduled to commence on June 30, 2013 and conclude on August 24, 2013. The main sponsor for the tournament is the Bigger Better Network, Digicel.

Powell, who is the former Junior Minister of the Nevis Reformation Party, has been the President of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association and Director of the West Indies Cricket Board. He also managed various cricket teams in Nevis and the Leeward Islands Senior Team.

Mr. Powell is also the father of West Indies player, Kieran Powell.

Hon. Parry expressed how proud he was for the nominated senator of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) and member of the Nevis Island Assembly, Hon. Carlisle Powell for his new achievements in cricket.
