JLPS Stuns CPS

It was an exciting start to the 2018 edition of the annual Runako Morton/TDC sponsored Primary Schools’ Cricket competition.
The first match was played at the ET Willet Park on Wednesday 27th June.
CPS batted first and with wickets falling at regular intervals, struggled to 58 for 9, in their allotted 15 overs.
However, the old adage that ‘runs on the board, are runs on the board,’ would have been on everybody’s mind.
JLPS were also off to a poor start and also lost some early wickets at the top of their innings.

However, Carlton Pluck played the shot of the match, with a smooth ‘big man’ flick over square leg for a boundary and Vernon Smithen, after an uncertain start, remained undefeated at the end, after a few lusty blows.

Staying with him in a crucial partnership, was 8 year old debutant, Jaden Browne, who not only played straight but showed quite some spirit and fight, against the older boys.

It came down to seven runs required from the last two overs. A couple of singles and one straight hit, laced down the ground by Smithen, was emphatic in its results, as it effectively helped to tie the scores.

With only one over remaining and one run required, the game was still interestingly positioned.
The first two ball were dots but the third ball was struck away by Joric Daniel and mid-on did not intercept a possible catch and the two batsmen crossed for the run in real jubilation.
JLPS had won!
