Lifting Spirits III Launching Annual St. Christopher Children’s Home Walk/Run Event

Basseterre, St. Kitts — Spirits were truly lifted on Wednesday, 09 September 2015 at the launch of the 6th Annual Family Fun Run for the St. Christopher Children’s Home (SCCH).

The Lifting Spirits III reception provided the organizers with an opportunity to network with sponsors and community leaders to discuss the key partnerships that would support the success of the event. Among the Sponsors in attendance were representatives from the St. Kitts Marriott, The Royal Beach Casino, Royal St. Kitts Hotel, Christophe Harbour, Digicel, International Investments Ltd., Vibes Bar, Porta Immigrations, International Software Services, and Durock.

Joining the ranks of sponsors this year is the New Birth Gospel Tabernacle Church as a Silver Sponsor. Pastor Orville Liddie is the first local minister to support the Children’s Home Fun Run this year.

The organizers for the 2015 Fun Run are looking to surpass or meet last year’s goal of EC $250,000. Over 1,000 persons participated last year and increasing the number of participates this year will help the SCCH meet the annual projections.

The SCCH is a non-governmental residential facility providing children placed by the Ministry of Child Protection Services for temporary or long term care with basic needs of food; clothing and shelter are dependent of the generosity of the community. In addition to the supplying the basic needs, it provides staff salaries, and general maintenance of the facility.

Speaking to platinum sponsors of the St. Christopher Children’s Home Family Run and Walk, Sebastian Mottram, the Chairman of the Board gave a heartfelt thanks saying: “Thank you for being the Champions of Our Cause, The Future of Our Children. The Home is thriving on your support and is growing into a regional flag-bearing facility where disadvantaged children are helped back on course to successful development”

Margaret Stevens, the SCCH Administrators reminds us that all of the expenses are covered by donations – even salaries. “ I am amazed at the number of people who are not aware of how the Home is funded for operating costs when approached about donations — ‘you all raised $250,000 last year – the Children’s Home has money.’ I have to remind them that this is the only money we receive coupled with a few smaller donations throughout the year. This leaves nothing for capital improvements and upgrades which are badly needed. There is so much that needs to be done and I can’t stress enough how much the success of the Fun Run depends on the community.”

Joining us this year is Jackiema Flemming, Miss World St Kitts 2015, of Sandy Point, St. Kitts. Ms. Flemming will serve as Ambassador for the SCCH bringing awareness to the special needs of children at risk.

The goal of the SCCH is to provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment designed to harness, develop and sustain the hopes, talents and aspirations of children through programs that address the holistic development of those whose best interest would only be served and promoted by placement in residential care as a result of potential or actual hard in their own home or community.
