(CHARLESTOWN NEVIS)- The teachers and students of the Maude Crosse Preparatory School celebrated the 36th anniversary of the School on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 under the theme ‘Celebrating the Past Present and Future’. The celebration took the form of a program at the Charlestown Methodist Church.

Former teacher of the school Ms. Juletta Parris gave the welcoming remarks. She noted that the institution started in 1977 and attracted students from various parts of the island. Ms. Parris said the school had been successful over the years since it promotes academic excellence and embraces diversity. In conclusion, Ms. Parris said the vision of Maude Crosse, founder of the school, stands as a testament of hope and the seed which she planted has bore many fruits.

The feature address was given by Mrs. Gloria Anslyn who was one of two teachers when the school started. Mrs. Anslyn said Ms. Maude Crosse was of the view that children should be properly educated at a very young age and so she set out to make a contribution. Anslyn stated that when the school began only eight students attended the school, a combination of boys and girls and her son Vaughn Anslyn was one of them.

The school she said was located in the backyard of the founder up until she decided to move to its present location. She encouraged the current students to have respect and self-discipline noting that without those factors it is very difficult to succeed in life. In her closing remarks, the featured speaker reminded the children to take their education very seriously since it is the passport for the future.

Past Principal of the school, Mrs. Varina Williams gave the closing remarks. She thanked the hardworking staff at the School for the tireless efforts they give on a daily basis claiming that without the staff the school would not have the success it currently enjoys.

Mrs. Williams had words of praise for Ms. Maude Crosse, whom she claimed was a visionary.

Ms Crosse was not present at the function but Mrs. Williams promised to tell her all that transpired on the anniversary day.
