BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy & Utilities; Domestic Transport; Information, Communication & Technology; and Post today presented a comprehensive Progress Report outlining major achievements and ongoing initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, strengthening public services, and enhancing the quality of life for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Led by Minister Hon. Konris G.M. Maynard, the report showcased significant investments and advancements across key sectors, including water security, renewable energy, public infrastructure, digital transformation, postal services, and national connectivity.
A major area of focus was water security, with the St. Kitts Water Services Department highlighting several strategic initiatives designed to improve the reliability and availability of water across the island. These include the development of the Basseterre Desalination Plant, groundwater exploration and development, the installation of new pipelines and pumps, expanded water storage capacity, and continued efforts to increase supply to communities such as St. Peter’s.
In the energy sector, the Energy Unit and the St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited (SKELEC) reported steady progress toward the Federation’s renewable energy goals. Updates were provided on initiatives such as Solarise and DRIVE, as well as plans for a proposed 50-megawatt solar photovoltaic project with battery storage. Additional investments in grid modernization, electric vehicle incentives, and measures to reduce dependence on fossil fuels were also highlighted.
The Ministry also underscored progress in public infrastructure, with the Public Works Department providing updates on ongoing road rehabilitation projects, new road construction, quarry upgrades, and the reconstruction of the Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School. Looking ahead, officials announced plans for additional projects, including works on the Lime Kiln Playfield Pavilion.
Advancements in digital transformation and postal services formed another important component of the report. The Digital Transformation Unit and the St. Kitts and Nevis Postal Services outlined progress on several modernization initiatives, including the introduction of a national electronic identification (e-ID) system, modernization of the civil registry, implementation of the National Addressing System, and enhancements to digital services aimed at improving public service delivery, emergency response, and national planning.
The report also emphasized improvements in national connectivity, with The Cable St. Kitts detailing progress in fibre network deployment, infrastructure upgrades at Cockleshell Bay, enhanced network reliability, and continued support for public safety infrastructure. These initiatives are expected to strengthen digital access and connectivity throughout St. Kitts.
Minister Maynard noted that the Progress Report reflects the Government’s commitment to delivering practical solutions and making strategic investments that will benefit citizens now and into the future.
“The work being undertaken across these sectors demonstrates our unwavering commitment to building a more resilient, sustainable, and connected St. Kitts and Nevis,” Minister Maynard said. “From improving water security and transitioning to renewable energy to modernising public services and expanding digital access, we are investing in initiatives that will have a lasting and positive impact on the lives of our people.”
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continuing these efforts as it works to create stronger infrastructure, more efficient services, and greater opportunities for all citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis.
