Nevis Receives Significant Supply Of Cricket Gear

On Friday 18th December, former Nevis cricketer Augustine Merchant, made a presentation of cricket gear, acquired from Ms. Tamara Lowe of the United Kingdom, through her charitable organization known as CRICKET KINDNESS CHARITY.

The presentation ceremony took place in the conference room at the Disaster Management office, at Long Point.

In giving a brief overview of the acquisition of the cricket gear, Merchant explained that he found out that Jamaica and Antigua and Barbuda had received substantial Cricket gear from a charity known as CRICKET KINDNESS CHARITY, and he conducted research and made contact with the charity’s founder and coordinator, Ms. Tamara Lowe, who eventually responded positively and sent the significant shipment of Cricket gear to Nevis.

Included in the package are 26 bats for seniors; 28 bats for juniors; 97 balls; 30 pairs of pads; 30 pairs of batting gloves; a hoop; 11 helmets; 40 t-shirts; gear bags and much more.

Merchant was high in praise for Ms. Lowe’s ‘outstanding charitable gesture.’

He also made it a point of duty, to thank the various individuals and organizations, who teamed up to ensure that the gear arrived safely in Nevis.

These included President Carlisle Powell and the Nevis Cricket Association; Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton and the Ministry of Sports; Minister of Sports, Hon. Eric Evelyn and Ms. Patricia Claxton, who facilitated the shipping arrangements, free of cost.

Also speaking at the presentation ceremony, was President of the NCA, Carlisle Powell; Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton and former Windies allrounder and current Coach, Keith Arthurton, who all lauded the gesture by Ms. Lowe and her charity.

Merchant and Powell also took time out to point out that the gear will be carefully distributed to young, upcoming cricketers on Nevis, through coaching programs that will commence in mid-January 2021, utilizing local coaches and former outstanding cricketers from Nevis.

Merchant, also took time out to thank his childhood friend, Rev. P. Allister Rawlins, who is a part of the committee that will ensure that the gear is properly utilized and not misused in any way.
