(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- On Tuesday, February 18, 2014 media houses on Nevis went on a wild goose chase after rumors started to circulate that the body of Dylon Clarke was found.

Sometime around midday, news surfaced that the remains of the youngster who disappeared on Saturday, April 28, 2012, were discovered somewhere in the St. John’s area on an empty plot of land.

Inquires were made into how this rumor began. This media house learnt that a backhoe was cleaning an empty plot of land where a cell phone was later discovered. Immediately persons began to speculate that the phone could have belonged to the missing Church Ground resident.

Nevispages spoke to a police officer who indicated that the police did a routine check of the area yesterday. He disclosed that a cellular phone was indeed found; but there is no evidence to indicate that the cell phone belongs to Dylon Clarke. The officer also confirmed that no human remains were found.

Dylon Clarke left his residence at Church Ground on the Saturday afternoon of April 28, 2012 wearing a yellow polo t-shirt, a pair of jean shorts and a pair of black Nike slippers.

It was reported that Dylon was last seen at the Moonlight Bar in Church Ground that same afternoon. It is said that he left that bar sometime around 6:00 p.m. and he indicated that he was going by a friend. According to an eye-witness, Dylon walked in the direction of Cane Garden using a back road. After leaving the bar, the seventeen year old was never seen again.

The news of the missing teen surfaced when a report was made on the following Sunday night to the Charlestown Police Station by his mother. In the days and weeks following, search parties were organized and many persons turned out to search various locations island wide, but all proved futile. The searches were eventually called off.

Sometime after Dylon’s disappearance the local Police solicited help from the USVI Police Tactical Unit K9 Department. Two Cadaver dogs trained in detecting the odor of decomposing bodies picked up a scent in Cane Garden but Dylon’s body was not found. The area was dug up but nothing was found.

Investigation into this matter continues.
