BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MARCH 7TH, 2017 (PRESS SEC) — St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, is pleased to once more update citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis on important matters of interest to the public.

The Honourable Prime Minister’s Monthly Press Conference will be held this Thursday, March 9th, 2017 from 2:00pm in the Parliamentary Lounge at Government Headquarters.

It will be broadcast live on national media and attended by the press corps who will ask questions for the benefit of the listening and viewing public.

The press conference comes on the heels of the Honourable Prime Minister’s trip to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela between Sunday, March 5th and Monday, March 6th to attend an Extraordinary Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty known simply as ALBA – TCP.

The 14th ALBA Summit of Heads of State and Government coincided with the four-year anniversary of the death of Venezuela’s Commander President Hugo Chávez who succumbed to cancer on March 5th, 2013 at the age of 58.

Chávez and Cuba’s late Commander-in-Chief, President Fidel Castro, who died on November 25th, 2016 at the age of 90, founded the political, economic and social alliance “in defence of independence, self-determination and the identity of peoples comprising it” on December 14th, 2004.  On that day, both leaders signed protocols for the fundamental purpose of achieving integral development for Latin America and the Caribbean, with an emphasis on complementarity, cooperation, justice and solidarity.

The Prime Minister’s Press Conference also falls one week after St. Kitts successfully hosted a Growth Forum with Social Partners, which was organized by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) and held at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium on Wednesday, March 1st; the 87th ECCB Monetary Council Meeting, which was held at the ECCB Headquarters on Thursday, March 2nd, and the 64th Meeting of the OECS Authority, which was held at the Grand Ballroom of the St. Kitts Marriott Resort on Friday, March 3rd.  The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis is the present Chairman of the OECS Authority.

Prime Minister Harris will provide a summary of the meetings and discuss other topics that are of interest to the public.
