Police High Command Updates Public During Radio Appearance on Freedom FM’S “Issues SKN”

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 23, 2015 (RSCNPF)- An appearance on Freedom FM earlier this week, was the latest in a series of public engagements by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force in meeting one of the mandates outlined in the recently initiated “Six Point” policing plan; community engagement.

Acting Commissioner Stafford Liburd and Assistant Commissioners Ian Queeley and Vaughan Henderson of the High Command,  joined the “Issues” program host Juni Liburd to provide an update to his audience on the ongoing efforts to address crime and violence in the Federation.

Each member provided an overview and detailed ongoing initiatives and actions being taken by the Police Force in its efforts to address crime.

Commissioner Liburd outlined, that over the last months, the Force has been building capacity, he said with an injection of resources and training, the Force has seen a few successes into the anti-crime efforts, and added the addition of a consultant team from the United Kingdom has also been of great value.

Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley, indicated that overall crime in St. Kitts and Nevis is down 29 percent in comparison to the same period last year,  he however, voiced his concern over the current rate of violent crimes,  particularly homicides. He added, “it will take the efforts of all in the community to address this problem, it will take the family, the schools,  the churches,  the NGO’s,  the Police and the community at large.”

Assistant Commissioner with responsibility for Operations Vaughan Henderson said,  “the Police Force will continue its efforts to ensure that St. Kitts and Nevis is a safe place to live, work and do business” as he outlined actions being taken to address crime in our communities.  The ACP continued, “we are continuing our stop and searches, our patrols and other crime fighting activities” and noted that “our intelligence led policing effort is also yielding results.”  The ACP also thanked those who have provided information.

The High Command ended by conveying to the general public that the fight against crime rest upon all of us. The Commissioner and ACP’s stressed, “if you see, hear or know something regarding any crime or any criminal activity, say something. Contact your nearest police station, or use the anonymous tip line, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS) to report any criminal activity.”
