Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force Investigating Death At Sea

Police Press Release

The Frigate Bay Police Station is investigating the circumstances by which 24 year old Daundre Antonio Barnaby of Canada died while swimming in St. Kitts on Friday, 27 March 2015 about 11:45 am.

Mr. Barnaby, a Canadian citizen residing in Ontario, Canada, traveled to St Kitts on March 23, 2015 with 20 other athletes and 8 officials from the Athletic Canada National Track and Field team for their annual training. On Friday, after returning from training at about 11:15 a.m., Mr. Barnaby and two female companions went to the ocean. Shortly after he encountered difficulty and called out for help.

Efforts to assist Mr. Barnaby were futile. An extensive search and rescue exercise was conducted by the Police, Coast Guard and local diver, Mr. Kenneth Samuel. After 3 hours and 33 minutes, Daundre Antonio Barnaby was discovered and retrieved from the water. The District Medical Officer, Dr. Mervin Laws was summoned to the scene and pronounced him dead at about 3:30 p.m. An official autopsy will be conducted on Monday.
