BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – The St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC) recently held a safeguarding seminar.
According to *games.biz*, the seminar took place at the SKNOC headquarters. It was organised by the Women in Sport Commission and attended by dignitaries, including Sports Minister Hon. Samal Duggins.
The project and seminar topic align with the United Nations’ affirmation of the “right of the child to participate in sport in a safe environment,” said the SKNOC.
“There was tremendous credit due to the outcomes of the group exercises, in which participants engaged collaboratively to find responses to and solutions for the perceived and actual challenges posed by safeguarding in sports,” said Jennifer Nero, Chair of the Women in Sport Commission.
She noted that hosting the seminar demonstrated the leadership’s commitment to the subject, adding that it would “assume increasing significance in the assessment of sport organisations’ stewardship going forward.”
Participants were given recommendations to take back to their respective National Federations.
Lenny Lake, a former national footballer and cricketer who now serves as a FIFA training facilitator and consultant, designed and facilitated the session. He praised the 29 participants for their “enthusiastic engagement.”
