SUSPECT IN CUSTODY, CAR IMPOUNDED FOR SUNDAY NIGHT SHOOTING ON NEVIS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 18, 2016, 2015 (RSCNPF):  One suspect has been arrested and a car impounded as a result of investigations into a shooting incident in the Hamilton area of Nevis. The incident occurred about 8.00pm on Sunday (April 17).

Investigations have revealed, that a male resident of Government Road while walking along the Stuart Williams Drive was shot by an unknown assailant(s) in a passing car. The assailant(s) fired several gunshots at the individual striking him multiple times.  The victim was transported to the Alexandra Hospital and is being treated for his injuries.

A search warrant executed on the home of the suspect led to his arrest and the impounding of the car.

Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian Queeley said, “in light of these back to back incidents on Nevis, the High Command and the Heads of the Tactical Units will meet on Monday (April 18) to look at an immediate response  to arrest this type of behavior.”

Commissioner Queeley added, “I commend the community for coming forward and assisting in these investigations, your information helped to move these cases forward.  We urge anyone with information that can assist the police further in these two incidents, or any of our other investigations, to call any Police Station in the federation or Crime Stoppers, our confidential hotline, at 1-800-8477 to share information.”

“Together we can reduce crime and the fear of crime in our communities,” stressed Commissioner Queeley.

Investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) and Technicians from the Forensics Unit have canvassed the scene for evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
