NEVIS, June 2026 — The T7S Organising Committee has recognised a key contributor to the successful staging of the T7S Cricket Tournament for his dedication and service as the tournament’s official scorer.
In addition to manually scoring every match, responsibilities included data collection, processing, and management to accurately determine individual and team statistics. These efforts ensured that tournament awards, including Most Runs and Most Wickets in both the senior and junior divisions, were fairly and accurately decided.
The scorer also played a consultative role in the development and implementation of the tournament’s innovative rules. These included unique features such as the jackpot over and the introduction of run penalties for extras without requiring a re-bowl, creating a fresh and engaging format for players and spectators alike.
To enhance the efficiency and accuracy of tournament operations, a customised system was developed to calculate individual and team totals. As the tournament progressed, an online scoring platform was also identified and introduced, with plans for its implementation in future editions of the competition.
Beyond scoring and data management, the contributor also served as a journalist for the event, producing match reports and game recaps throughout the tournament. The combination of these responsibilities made for a demanding but highly rewarding experience.
The T7S Tournament was established in response to concerns that interest in cricket in Nevis was declining. What began as a simple idea evolved into one of the island’s most engaging sporting events, attracting strong community support and sustained interest throughout its six-week run.
Although participation as a player was sacrificed in order to fulfil the tournament’s operational needs, the decision reflected a commitment to ensuring the integrity of the competition. The complexity of the rules and scoring system required dedicated attention and precision.
Reflecting on the experience, the honoree described the tournament as one of the best-organised and executed events he has had the privilege of being involved in. He also highlighted the strong sense of community engagement as one of the most rewarding aspects of the initiative.
