Two killed in Tragic Drag Race Accident in Anguilla while preparing for Nevis Independence Meet

(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- The small island of Anguilla was shaken up early this morning Friday, September 20, 2013 when two young drag racers were killed in a tragic accident.

Nevispages understands that the two were testing and tuning the vehicle in preparation for the Independence Drag Meet here in Nevis when the incident occurred. The Drag Meet is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22, 2013. They were scheduled to leave Anguilla today Friday, September 20, 2013.

Further information revealed that Silwood Connor lost control of the vehicle and in the process the vehicle began to flip. It is alleged that the passenger, Marlon Harrigan was thrown from the vehicle. Both youngsters died instantly on the spot. It is also alleged that they were not wearing seat belts.

The Nevis Drag Racing Unit and Mervyn Bennett, head of Marketing and Development have sent condolences to the family, friends and team members of the victims.

Bennett has confirmed that Anguilla will not be taking part in the event over the weekend, but persons in Anguilla who already purchased airline tickets would still travel to Nevis.
